I came to these posters by a different road than most people. I was born in Syria and grew up in Germany. I always knew I was Arab, but I never saw that belonging represented in front of me.
So when I first saw OSPAAAL's posters of solidarity with Arab causes, I did not feel I had found old pictures or a political archive, but something that had been missing.

Lincoln Cushing of Docs Populi in Berkeley opened his archive to the project and supplied the poster scans in the book. Fernando Camacho Padilla of the Universidad Autónoma de Madrid let me use his photographs of the house in Havana. Alberto García Molinero of the Universidad de Granada led me to Rafael Enríquez Vega, who designed the Arabic edition and answered my questions from Havana.
Sorcha Thomson sent the pages of issue 79 from the Biblioteca Nacional José Martí. Nathaniel Moore (Freedom Archives), Daniel Millum (University of Sussex), Rania Kanj (American University of Beirut) and Alice Corble (University College London) searched their collections and sent what they found.
